As we continue to increase the time limit, we eventually reach an amount of time that is equivalent to or greater than the amount of time we are awake on a given day.
Over time, we can make more mistakes and slip ups because of our natural mood fluctuation. We will have more opportunities for learning and growth.
All we need to do on the first day is to postpone the first cigarette with an amount of time that feels comfortable to us and is not too easy.
None of the time limit numbers are set in stone so we need to individualize our own time limits and we need to pace our progress. We don’t want to move too slowly and we don’t want to move too quickly.
We need to choose a time period that feels reasonable to us and we will profit greatly from experimentation. We don’t want to end up torturing the monkey into quitting smoking, we might as well opt for the cold turkey method if we wanted torture.
When we wake up in the morning, it takes some time before we light up our first cigarette.
